MSP: 2 seriously injured in Dalton Twp. crash

DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Troopers say a driver and a teenage passenger were hospitalized in serious condition after a crash in Dalton Township.

Troopers were on scene Saturday evening on northbound US-31 near Russell Road, the Michigan State Police said around 8:10 p.m.

Initial reports indicate that a passenger van carrying six people was changing lanes when it hit a pickup truck in the right lane, MSP says. The van went off the roadway, rolled multiple times and ejected the female driver, according to MSP.

Troopers say the female driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition. A teenage passenger was also taken to the hospital via Aero Med in serious condition, they say.

The van’s four other passengers suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to MSP.

Troopers say the driver of the truck was not hurt.

Drivers were asked to seek an alternate route as troopers investigated. The freeway was temporarily closed, but all lanes were back open by about 10:50 p.m., according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
