MPD Major Philip McCrary alleges ‘numerous inaccuracies’ in Kenyen Brown report: letter

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Another official from the Mobile Police Department is speaking out after the Kenyen Brown report was unveiled last night.

Major Philip McCrary with the Mobile Police Department issued a statement Wednesday, following the unveiling. The statement comes after McCrary promised to “not sit quietly” if someone “attacks the honor and integrity of this department.”

In his letter, McCrary alleged that the report that delved into the policies and training surrounding six cases by the Mobile Police Department had “numerous inaccuracies, assumptions, and legal violations.”

Although he states he will not go into detail about the facts of the report until it is finalized by command staff, McCrary gives one example he alleges shows inaccuracy. He specifically points to “page 38 of the report under RECOMMENDATIONS paragraph 1.”

The report comes after the Mobile Police Department’s use of force was brought into question, especially following the death of a 16-year-old boy in a pre-dawn raid.

Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine was placed on administrative leave pending the report. The Mobile City Council will vote on whether or not Prine will be terminated at their next meeting.
