14-year-old driver injured in shooting at Frayser gas station

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 14-year-old driver was grazed in the back of the head following a shooting in Frayser overnight, according to Memphis Police.

MPD responded to a shooting call at a Shell gas station on James Road and Range Line. Two cars, a Nissan and a Chevy Malibu were shooting at each other.

Victor Upchurch has been a victim of crime and witnessed a shooting on his own street. “I am from Chicago and I have seen more killings here than I have seen in Chicago.”

The 14-year-old victim, who was driving the Nissan, was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

He was later downgraded to non-critical condition.

Local citizen Alexander Montero wants to know why the teenager was out so late. “What is he doing out at twelve o’clock at night? And now the parents are boohooing, right,” he asked.

Upchurch also believes the parents are to blame. “Pay attention to your kids, know where they are and what they are doing. Everybody needs to stick together and just keep the violence down, it’s just too much unnecessary killing.”
