Mount Gilead man dies in 3-vehicle crash on Ohio 314

The Mount Gilead Post is investigating a thre-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist Tuesday morning on Ohio 314 near Township Road 49 in Troy Township in Morrow County.

Ohio Highway Patrol reported Joseph Oman, 51, of Mount Gilead, was operating a 2008 Harley Davidson Road Glide northbound on Ohio 314 and John Thauvette, 47, of Shelby, was operating a 2005 Honda Civic southbound on Ohio 314. Timothy Hale, 27, of Mansfield, was operating a 2013 Chevrolet 2500 HD southbound on Ohio 314. Oman went left of center on a double-yellow line and struck Thauvette's vehicle head-on, and Hale struck Thauvatte's vehicle in the rear, according to a news release from the patrol.

Oman was pronounced dead at the scene. Oman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the patrol. Thauvette and Hale were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Thauvette suffered serious injuries and was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital in Mansfield by EMS. Hale suffered no known injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio Highway Patrol was assisted by Johnsville fire, Troy Township EMS, Iberia EMS, Morrow County Coroner's Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
