One person is dead and another is injured after an SUV and motorcycle crash east of Ottawa.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the collision happened around 9:40 p.m. Thursday on Craig Street west of Hamilton Road in the Township of Russell.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the OPP statement, while the driver of the SUV had "non life-threatening injuries" and was taken to the hospital.

Craig Street was closed in the area overnight and reopened Thursday morning.

OPP said the investigation is ongoing and the motorcyclist's drivers' licence had been suspended at the time of the crash.

The scene is about a kilometre east of Ottawa's border and 30 kilometres southeast of the city core.
