Motorcyclist identified, suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A motorcyclist who died of his injuries after a hit-and-run crash in Colorado Springs has been identified as 59-year-old Allen J Yankowsky, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD said the driver who allegedly hit Yankowsky, later identified as 60-year-old Adbou Toraore, is facing several charges including Vehicular Homicide and DUI.

The crash happened on Tuesday, April 2 just after 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Academy and Astrozon Boulevards. According to CSPD, Toraore was making a left-hand turn from southbound Academy when he hit Yankowsky who was going northbound. Police said Toraore then left the scene of the crash before causing property damage and crashing into a curb.

CSPD said a witness who saw Toraore leave the scene called 911 and when police arrived, was able to direct officers to where Toraore crashed. Police then placed him into custody.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to the crash and attempted lifesaving measures but Yankowsky succumbed to his injuries on the scene. On Wednesday, April 3 the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and was able to identify Yankowsky.
