Motorcyclist flown to Rochester after crash with tractor east of Hayward

May 20—A motorcyclist was flown to Rochester Friday afternoon after a crash with a tractor on 850th Avenue east of Hayward.

Dominic Turvold, 27, of Oakland, received severe injuries and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office. His condition is not known.

The Sheriff's Office stated Turvold was riding a motorcycle southbound on 850th Avenue behind a John Deere tractor, driven by John Van Erkel, 38, of Hollandale, that had its hazard lights on.

The tractor reportedly turned its left turn signal on to turn into a field drive at the same time that the motorcycle moved into the northbound lane to pass the tractor.

The Sheriff's Office stated Turvold attempted to lay the bike down, and the motorcycle ultimately hit the tractor at the steps to the cab, rupturing the fuel tank.

The crash occurred at 3:38 p.m.
