Santa Paula Police Department officers investigate a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist and a pickup truck Thursday night.

A motorcyclist died Thursday night after a collision with a pickup truck in Santa Paula, police said Friday.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Peck Road and Santa Paula Street around 6:20 p.m., said Chief Don Aguilar of the Santa Paula Police Department.

The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center where he later died, the chief said.

On Friday afternoon, the department identified the rider as Richard Cisneros, 29, of Santa Paula.

The truck driver, a 26-year-old Santa Paula man, wasn't injured.

Cisneros had been riding westbound on Santa Paula Street at the time, the department said in a news release. The truck had been traveling southbound on Peck.

The motorcyclist's speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash, the agency said.

As of Friday afternoon, police investigators hadn't determined whether alcohol or drugs may have been a factor for the motorcycle rider because toxicology reports were still pending.

The initial investigation found no indication the truck driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, authorities said.

Any witnesses who haven't already spoken with an officer or investigator are asked to call Detective Hector Ramirez at 805-525-4474 ext. 237.
