Motorcycle rider heading to Bike Week in Myrtle Beach killed in crash, SC coroner says
A man riding a motorcycle to Bike Week in Myrtle Beach was killed Saturday in a crash in the Midlands, South Carolina officials said.
Tully Tillman, a 37-year-old Indian Land resident, died in the accident, Kershaw County Coroner David West said Sunday.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 6 a.m., according to West.
Tillman was driving a 1991 Honda motorcycle south on S.C. 903/McBee Highway when the bike ran off the road near the intersection with Ellis Road and crashed into a culvert, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Tillman, who was traveling alone, was taken to an area hospital where he died, West said.
Tillman was wearing a helmet, according to West.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the motorcycle to veer off the road was not available, and Glover did not say if the Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
Through Thursday, 306 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least three people have died in Kershaw County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data. There were 11 deaths reported in the county in 2023, DPS reported.
