A motorcycle rider has died after a crash involving their vehicle and a car in Brampton, Peel police say.

Peel police responded to the collision near Hurontario Street and Wanless Drive around 2:48 p.m. Sunday, the force said in a post on social media.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and has since died, police say.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Const. Tyler Bell said the motorcyclist was heading south on Hurontario Street while the car was heading north. The car then tried to turn left into a plaza and the two vehicles collided, Bell said.

"The sequence of events, what led to the collision [and] wether or not speed was a factor is going to be part of that ongoing investigation," Bell said.

Bell had originally said the man was in his 30s but later said that was incorrect and the man was in his 50s.

Peel police are warning drivers to expect road closures in the area into the evening.
