Mother of man killed in hit-and-run speaks after 2 charged in his death

For the last eight months, Melvin and Susan Gleason have wondered if they will ever get justice for their son, Zachary Gleason.

“We miss him every day. Every day. He’s in my thoughts every day,” Susan, the victim’s mother told Channel 11.

Zachary, a father of four, was walking along West Carson Street in the early morning of January 14, when he was killed in a double hit-and-run.

Today, they’ve learned two men are now facing charges in Zachary’s death.

“I feel sorry for them. I know it’s probably going to ruin their lives too, and I’m not one to hold grudges or anything like that,” Susan said.

Markel Pulliam Jr. and Anthony Baldwin both have warrants out for their arrests. Police say they were driving separate cars on that early morning, and hit Gleason one after another.

According to investigators, they both drove off from the scene. Pulliam had a suspended license.

“I think they were scared. I think people get scared and flight is the answer to that fear,” Susan said.

The Gleason couple learned today that investigators say their son was still breathing when police say the men drove off.

“I try to be positive, and my mind goes that way. So I try to say, well, hopefully, he wasn’t feeling anyway. Hopefully, he was unconscious and couldn’t feel it,” she said.

The Gleasons have words of advice for the men charged in their son’s death.

“Seek forgiveness in yourself. And try to live out your life better than you ever did before,” she said.
