Mother out of hospital is charged with killing her son

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita mother has been charged with killing her 14-year-old son. A court document shows that Kylee R. Hodges is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Claude Hodges Jr.

The document alleges that on or about Jan. 28, the mother did “unlawfully, intentionally, and with premeditation, kill a human being … by inflicting injuries from which Claude J. Hodges Jr. did die” on Jan. 29.

Police went to the Hodges’ apartment in west Wichita last month to check on the son’s safety. The child’s parents were no longer together and shared 50-50 custody, according to Claude Hodges Sr.

According to the Wichita Police Department, the mother allegedly met officers with a gun, and a standoff began. It ended with SWAT officers shooting the mother and finding the son’s body in a bedroom. He had been shot.

The mother was rushed to the hospital for surgery. She has been getting medical care for the last two weeks.

The Sedgwick County Jail booking sheet shows Kylee Hodges was booked into jail on Monday. Court records show that she was also charged on Monday.

Hodges’ bond is set at $1.5 million. Her next court date is Feb. 28.
