Mother duck and 11 ducklings are rescued from busy CT plaza, relocated to area river

A family of ducklings and a mama duck were recently rescued from a busy plaza in downtown Stamford.

The 11 ducklings along with their mother were spotted in the Landmark Square Plaza where a number of individuals helped wrangle them to safety, the Stamford Police Department wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Those who assisted included Lynne Colatrella of the Stamford Downtown Special Services District, Animal Control Officer John Franzetti, Landmark Security Guard Omar Riofrio and multiple Eastern Land Management gardeners, police said.

Franzetti returned to the scene three times to make sure all the ducklings were safely rounded up before the family was released at Mill River, police said.

According to police, those in the area believe the same mother duck has laid her eggs in that courtyard for the past four years.
