Here are some of the most unnoticed things surrounding the Big 12 basketball tournament

From the tip off to the final buzzer, most of the attention focused on a Big 12 tournament basketball game is given to the action on the court.

The game is what everyone watching in person or tuned in to see it on television is there for. That’s not all that goes on at Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center though when the Big 12 basketball tournament is in town.

Throughout this week’s men’s tournament and last week’s women’s tournament there are all sorts of behind the scenes, and not so behind the scenes, things that happen to keep the games going and fans informed.

Fans attending games who are curios enough to look around during time outs may notice a few of these scenes that play out near the court. But if you’re a fan watching on television, there is a lot you don’t see or get the briefest glimpse of during the games.

While covering this week’s men’s tournament, The Star’s Nick Wagner took some breaks from photographing the action to turn his lenses on some of the behind the scenes people and behind the scenes places at T-Mobile Center that are part of what make the Big 12 tournament happen.

The scorer’s table is the nerve center of the games during the Big 12 basketball tournament at T-Mobile Center. Along with the controls for the game clock and scoreboard, there are game staff keeping track of scoring, fouls and other official statistics of each game. To get the best action shots, credentialed photographers take photos of the game from their assigned positions along the baselines on either ends of the court during the Big 12 tournament at the T-Mobile Center.
