The most popular royals have been revealed, and the results may surprise you

With Prince Charles nearing his 70th birthday in a couple of days and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently completing their tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, the royal family continue to dominate the headlines in 2018.

The younger generation of royals has proven especially popular in recent years, with the birth of Prince Louis in April this year and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan a month later.

With that in mind, surely it would make sense for Prince Harry, Meghan, Prince William and Kate to be dubbed the most well-received royals among the British public? Not quite.

A recent poll undertaken by YouGov has revealed the most favoured members of the royal family.

Topping the list is Prince Harry, with 77 per cent of those polled saying that they’re fond of the father-to-be.

But in an arguably surprising turn of events, his wife trails him in the list by five places, with only 55 per cent of those polled saying that they have a positive view of the women’s rights advocate.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also placed higher on the list than the Duchess of Sussex, coming in third and fourth place respectively.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been placed fifth on the list, with the Queen being crowned the second most popular member of the royal family.

Prince Charles falls just behind Meghan, with 48 per cent of the nation stating that they like the first-in-line to the throne.

The Prince of Wales has recently spoken about how he will deal with governmental matters when he becomes king, vowing to never "meddle" in politics.

Speaking for a BBC documentary to mark his 70th birthday, he explained that he will ensure that he distinguishes between being heir to the throne and head of state.

"You know, I've tried to make sure whatever I've done has been non-party political, and I think it's vital to remember there's only room for one sovereign at a time, not two," he said.

"So you can't be the same as the sovereign if you're the Prince of Wales or the heir."
