The Most Popular Halloween Costumes in 2016 By State

From Seventeen

When October rolls around and it's time to pick out a costume for your Halloween party, there's always three sources of anxiety around your search:

1.) What's the creative, cool costume that's going to blow everyone away this year?

2.) How much will you have to spend on it?

3.) What if someone else has the same exact brilliant idea for a costume?!

Well, Google decided to help you with your Halloween struggle. Their Google Frightgeist site crunched numbers for the top 500 costume searches across the U.S. and created a brilliant map showing the hot bed areas for each costume. The results are super interesting and you can use the info to avoid showing up to your costume party wearing the same costume as half your grade.

Apparently, Texans have a thing for dressing up like Star Wars characters. Nebraska is going to be overflowing with comic book fans dressed up as Optimus Prime from Transformers. In Maine, everyone's going to be walking around barefoot like Pebbles Flinstone. And in California, the most popular costume is pretty much tied between two kickass female comic book characters: Catwoman and Harley Quinn.

Speaking of Harley Quinn, sadly, you should probably avoid her at all costs. As awesome and unique as she is as a character, that's what makes her the #1 most popular costume across the U.S.

Head over to Frightgeist to see what the most popular costume is in your state and to get some costume inspiration while you still have time.
