Most incumbents safe in Harris County, only two contested commission seats
HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — The Harris County local elections for May 2024 are set after last week’s qualifying period. There are 12 races on the ballot, and many of the incumbents that are up for re-election face no opposition, that includes Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley.
The only contested races are county commissioner seats for District 4 and District 5. Three candidates are vying for the commissioner seat for District 4. Bobby Irions is seeking reelection, Richie Grantham and Jim Kelly are also campaigning for this seat. Irions was seated in 2021 after the retirement of Harry Lange. Irions’ current term goes through Dec. 31, 2024.
Current commissioner for District 5, Susan Andrews, is also seeking reelection against candidate Brice Patterson. Andrews was seated as a continuing commissioner in 2021, her term also goes through Dec. 31, 2024. Commissioner seats are four-year terms.
