Morse police chief suffers broken back in car accident

MORSE, La. (KLFY) — Morse Police Chief Barton Kibodeaux was hospitalized Tuesday after a crash in his police unit resulted in a broken back.

In a message on the Morse PD’s Facebook page posted at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, Kibodeaux said he “got in a bad accident” that fractured his L2 and L4 vertebrae.

“At this time they have sent me home in a back brace where I have to meet a spine specialist to decide where we’re gonna go from here,” Kibodeaux said. “So I asked of all of you to please say an extra prayer for me to make this through and have a successful healing.”

Kibodeaux posted an update at 7:52 a.m. today saying he was released from the hospital.

“I am home in a back brace waiting on the orthopedic specialist to call me back to set up an appointment for when I can see him,” he said. “I’m in a lot of pain, but I appreciate all the calls the text and the messages. If I don’t get back to you right away, please understand that I’m resting. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for bearing with me and the police department on the calls from the community.”

Kibodeaux, who was elected Morse Police Chief unopposed in the Oct. 14, 2023 gubernatorial primary election, said Lieutenant Hollins Trahan Jr. will be handling most of the chief’s administrative duties until further notice.

“Our village means the most to me and I will be back stronger than ever to take care of the people who take care of me,” he said.
