Who will be Morrisville's next school superintendent? Here's the timeline

Morrisville is looking for a new superintendent of schools as Sean Haines has stepped down to take a position with the Neshaminy School District.

Haines started work in Neshaminy on Thursday as the new assistant to the superintendent/director of educational operations. He replaces Paul Meehan who retired in December. Haines served as a teacher and then administrator in Morrisville since 2004 and became superintendent in 2021, earning $150,552 plus benefits.

His new salary at Neshaminy is listed with the school board agenda as $158,403.

Morrisville states it is seeking "a student-centered, highly qualified educational leader ... The new Superintendent will seek to expand individual excellence of each student by providing an advanced, dynamic, and caring educational environment where learning and growth are experienced and embraced by all."

The district preferably wants a candidate with a doctoral degree and kindergarten to 12th grade experience as a teacher, school leader and/or central office administrator with superintendent and/or assistant superintendent experience. Deadline for applying is 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The search is being conducted by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.

The Morrisville district is being guided by Interim Superintendent David Bolton, who previously served as superintendent for Pennridge for five year and, prior to that, for 15 years as a principal and assistant superintendent in the Central Bucks School District. He also worked for 15 years as a teacher and assistant principal in the Pennsbury School District. Bolton's pay is $1,000 for a full day and $500 for a half day of service. As a consultant, he does not receive benefits.

Bolton retired from Pennridge in October.

The Morrisville School District, with 1,047 students, has long sought a merger with Pennsbury, but the district opted last year to focus on the construction of a new high school. The district is in the design phase for that project, estimated at about $250 million. Potential plans to merge the two districts were vetoed by the Pennsbury board, at least for the present time.

Morrisville School Board President Damon Miller said the board hopes to have the interview process completed by April and appoint a new superintendent at its April 24 meeting.

At Neshaminy, Haines will serve in a wide-range of administrative duties, including "building level appointments, budgeting, enrollment and staff projections, discipline matters, district safety and security protocols and building infrastructure," the district stated in announcing his appointment.

Haines replaces Paul Meehan who retired from Neshaminy in December. He was hired back as a consultant with teacher placement service, to help the district with large scale projects, with the contract approved at the November school board meeting.

"He was retained as a consultant to help with the transition and to work on various special projects, including those related to the opening of the new Core Creek Elementary School," said Neshaminy spokesman Chris Stanley. His salary through ESS was not available Monday afternoon.
