This Morning paid an on-air tribute to Hollywood showbiz reporter Sam Rubin today (May 13), following his death over the weekend.

The show issued a statement over the weekend saying goodbye to Sam, who often appeared live via video link to provide updates on all the goings-on in Tinseltown.

On today's show, Cat Deeley began the on-air tribute by calling him "the best in the biz", explaining: "Having started here at This Morning in 2016, Sam brought with him his knowledge and expertise to share the latest from Hollywood with us and he wore his skills so lightly."

Cat and co-presenter Ben Shephard – who said that Sam will be "dearly missed" – spoke via live link to Ross King, a fellow entertainment correspondent who worked with Sam on the network KTLA.

"I still can't [believe it]," Ross said. "I get lost for words at times. He was just a lovely man.

"I hope Sammy, you're looking down and seeing how much love there is for you, because it's remarkable. Sam loved being Sam and he loved being on camera, and he was loved. I just hope he can see it.

"I hope he can see the love that he's got from the industry – that people are talking about him so much that it's making such big news, and the outpouring of grief from people within the industry and the stars that loved him as well. Sammy would have loved this."
