Morley's Run participants take their marks on Saturday

Nov. 2—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Calling all running enthusiasts who are looking for a fun and challenging fall race.

The annual Morley's Run, a 5-mile run or walk, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday with a course that will take participants past many Johnstown landmarks.

The event, sponsored by The Tribune-Democrat, will begin at the Westmont Grove, 1000 Edgehill Drive in Westmont, and finish at Peoples Natural Gas Park, 90 Johns St. in downtown Johnstown.

Race-day registration will begin at 8 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit The Tribune-Democrat's Newspapers in Education program, which provides 220 teachers in 32 school districts newspapers at no cost to use in their classrooms. Through the NIE program, The Tribune-Democrat reaches more than 9,000 students per week in Cambria, Somerset, Indiana and Bedford counties.

"It helps to raise funds for the Newspapers in Education program and is a good fundraiser for us," said Sue Sheehan, The Tribune-Democrat's regional director of audience development.

"We need to teach our young people that the newspaper is still alive and it's important, whether it's in print or digital."

The course will wrap through Westmont and Stackhouse Park and then proceed through the Cambria City section of Johnstown. Runners and walkers will cross the finish line at PNG Park.

The race route will be manned by local fire department members and emergency medical technicians.

"This run brings the community together," Sheehan said. "It's fun to see everybody come out and run."

At PNG Park, there will be food and drinks donated by local businesses for race participants.

Ribbons will be awarded to the first male and female runner and walker.

Results will be printed in The Tribune-Democrat following the race and online at

"This is a family event, and people are coming out to have a good time," Sheehan said.

Cost is $25. Registration can be done in advance or the day of the race.
