Arrest made in Morgan City shooting
UPDATE, 5/23/24, 10:31 A.M.: The suspect has been identified as Joshua D. Robertson, 32 of Morgan City. Reports show that Robertson was in a verbal altercation when he struck the victim. Robertson then went to his vehicle and brandished a gun. The victim, who had a small child with them at the time, also produced a gun and began to run into a house when Robertson allegedly fired a shot. The victim shot back then ran into the house where there was a 3rd person and a child.
Evidence was collected from the scene of the shooting, as well as from Robertson’s car. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found in Robertson’s vehicle and his record show he was a convicted felon.
Robertson was charged with the following:
Attempted Second Degree Murder (2 counts)
Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
Illegal Use of Dangerous Instrumentalities
Aggravated Assault with a Firearm
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Simple Battery
Flight from an Officer
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
ORIGINAL, 5/15/24, 4:15 P.M.: MORGAN CITY, La. (KLFY) – Morgan City Police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon.
According to Morgan City Police, officers responded to the area of Fifth Street near Freret Street just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday regarding shots being fired in the area.
On arrival, officers attempted to initiate a stop on a suspected vehicle when the subject drove away. After a short chase, the subject stopped on Sixth Street near Clothilde Street. The driver was taken into custody pending further investigation.
Two suspects arrested, one still free in Gueydan ATM theft
Investigators with the MCPD Detectives Division and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office located a residence on Fifth Street where the shooting occurred. Another suspect involved was also taken into custody. No injuries are reported at this time.
