More human remains have been found in two locations as part of an investigation into the discovery of a torso at a nature reserve.

The torso, which police believe belongs to a man in his 60s who has not been named, was found in clear plastic by a passer-by at Kersal Dale Wetlands in Salford, Greater Manchester, on April 4.

Two men are in custody after being arrested last week on suspicion of murder, and Greater Manchester Police said on Sunday that the victim is believed to have known them.

The remains, discovered over the last two days, were found at Salford’s Blackleach Reservoir and Linnyshaw Colliery Wood – two of four crime scenes now being looked at by detectives.

A dog walker found a “package containing human remains” on Saturday night at Linnyshaw Colliery Woods, while further remains were found at Blackleach Country Park on Sunday.

Det Supt Lewis Hughes said police are “very confident” it is the same victim, who is believed to have died in late March.

He said officers were searching a warehouse where “items were stored after this incident without the knowledge of occupants of that warehouse”, and are also searching a house in Winton where the victim was believed to have lived with the two men in custody.

A 42-year-old was arrested after officers stormed a bus on Eccles Old Road on April 25, the force said. A 68-year-old was later arrested at an address on Worsley Road.

The force said the arrests came after officers had trawled CCTV footage for hundreds of hours. A 20-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder was released on bail pending further inquiries.

“It is too soon to rule out [looking for other suspects] but we’re confident at this time that we have the right two suspects in custody,” Det Supt Hughes added.
