With more early voting, Trump races against time

For President Donald Trump, it’s a race against time… with less than three weeks before the election… and long lines of voters - like this one in Fairfax, Virginia - already casting their ballots.

A record 13 million Americans have voted so far, according to the University of Florida.

And on Thursday - three more states, including Virginia, opened polling stations.

"First time I'm voting early, but I didn't want to leave it to chance."

President Donald Trump is trying to sway voters, and make up for time lost to his bout with the coronavirus after rallies in Florida and Pennsylvania.

Trump on Wednesday headed to Des Moines, Iowa - a state he won in 2016 by 10 percentage points.

“And we have a big rally, a lot of people…”

The president’s stop in Iowa so close to Election Day suggests concern about support there.

And it’s not just Iowa that Trump could see slipping away. Reuters/Ipsos polling released this week showed Biden widening his lead in the key states of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania – states Trump won in 2016.

“I went through it. Now they say I’m immune…”

Despite Trump claiming good health, his illness has given Biden an opening to focus on the president's response to the pandemic in the closing stretch:

“…and he insisted that the virus - and I quote - 'affects virtually nobody.’”

In Florida on Tuesday, Biden told seniors that Trump had recklessly dismissed the threat that the virus poses to their age group:

"With Donald Trump, it's simple, not a joke, you're expendable. You're forgettable. You're virtually nobody. That's how he sees seniors.”

Trump on Wednesday fought back at a virtual event at the White House.

"But I will not rest and I will not relent until all American seniors are safe. That is my sacred obligation.”

On Thursday, Trump heads to Greenville in rural North Carolina, a closely fought state where early voting will begin that day.

Trump has set up a competing town hall with NBC News in Miami… going head to head with Biden.

Biden had previously scheduled a town hall with ABC News in Philadelphia on the same night, in lieu of a second presidential debate that - after back & forth from the Trump campaign - was canceled.
