Salley Mavor: Bedtime Stitches is open through May 5 at the Upcountry History Museum. Each of the featured 18 pieces of original artwork is stitched entirely by hand and presents a three-dimensional bas-relief sculpture created like a shadow box. Made with a variety of materials, such as fabric, beads, and wire, these fabric arts contain Mavor’s detailed, intricate designs. Assembled like a tiny stage with its own scenery and characters, each scene takes visitors on an international journey from Afghanistan to Ghana to Scandinavia to South America and beyond to illustrate varying cultures and home environments. Every Step of the Way, a monthly email newsletter from Greenville First Steps, is targeted specifically to your child’s age and development. The newsletter is completely free. STRIDES Systematic Tutoring, a nonprofit program, offers individualized tutoring for ages 6 – 20. instruction is available. Well Walkers is offered April 2, 4, 9, 11, 23, 25 and 30 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The arena concourse will be open from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for anyone who wants to have a temperature-controlled space to exercise. Each loop around the concourse is a quarter mile. Well Walkers is a free event with no registration or prior notice required. Free parking for participants is provided in the VIP lot at the arena, located off Church Street. Little Learners Club, available from the Greenville County Library System, is designed especially for children under age 5 to encourage the development of kindergarten readiness skills using the Palmetto Basics. Details are at greenvillelibrary.org/kids/little-learners-club.
Free Books – Greenville First Steps has launched a pilot of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Greenville County. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is an early literacy program that mails free age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth to age 5. Time Travel: Art Through The Ages (Art History Lite) for young artists is a drop-in class at Yellowbobbypins Art Camp at Hampton Station.
