More than 600 pounds of food donated to Fishes & Loaves by Gus Harrison Correctional Facility

MADISON TWP. — A multi-week food donation drive conducted earlier this month by staff members from Gus Harrison Correctional Facility produced a total of 611 pounds of food that was donated to the Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry in Adrian.

On top of the more than 600 pounds of donated food, the Gus Harrison Employee Club also donated $500 in Aldi gift cards, according to an announcement from Matt Randall, athletic/recreation director, Employee Club president and warden’s forum liaison for Gus Harrison Correctional Facility.

The employees of the facility located in Madison Township at 2727 E. Beecher St., continued to hold the food donation drive up to last week’s Thanksgiving holiday, Randall said, in support of the local community and as a response to the increased need for donations.

A recently held food donation drive by employees at Gus Harrison produced 611 pounds of food that was donated to the Adrian food pantry. The collection continued through the Thanksgiving holiday.

“The food pantry staff were extremely grateful for the large donation and Cheri Constable, pantry manager, said the need in the community has increased and the donations have decreased significantly,” Randall said. “This is such a huge help, especially this time of year.”

The food pantry is one of several ministries housed under the umbrella of Neighbors of Hope, which advocates for the hungry and homeless in Lenawee County through Christ-centered programming.

“To that end, we distribute over 7,500 pounds of food to nearly 500 people per month,” Fishes & Loaves said on its website.
