More than 20 Leap Day babies born in Bay Area

(KRON) — The chances of being born on a Leap Day are 1-in-1,461 or 0.06 percent. If you were born on Feb. 29, consider yourself special.

The date only pops up on the calendar every four years. Only about 360,000 Americans share a Feb. 29 birthday.

In the Bay Area, more than two dozen babies were born on the special day, multiple Bay Area hospitals told KRON4. Here’s how many babies were both at these Bay Area hospitals.

  • Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (Stanford): 12

  • John Muir Health: 6

  • SF General Hospital: 5

  • Sutter Health (CPMC Van Ness): 3

  • Kaiser Permanente in Antioch: 1

There was a total of at least 27 babies born in the Bay Area on Feb. 29. That number could be more by the time it hits midnight.
