Deadly severe storms unleashed destruction across the area Wednesday afternoon.

Severe thunderstorms with winds up to 70 mph push through area

Strong winds of up to 70 mph toppled trees and powerlines, which caused more than 100,000 Duke Energy customers to lose power Wednesday night.

As of 7 a.m. on Thursday, more than 70,000 Duke Energy customers reported not having power. More than 25,000 outages have been reported in South Carolina as well.

Duke Energy doesn’t have an estimated time of restoration yet. The website only says that repairs and damage assessments are underway.
