More than 1,000 drivers contacted in missing man case

More than 1,000 taxi drivers have been contacted by police who are continuing to investigate the disappearance of a 23-year-old student.

Jack O'Sullivan was last seen around the Hotwells area of Bristol in the early hours of 2 March, returning home from a night out with friends.

A new CCTV clip showing a member of the public walking a dog near the Brunel Swing Bridge at 04:30 GMT has also been released. They're described as wearing a green padded jacket with a fur-lined hood and walking a black dog with a red collar.

Avon and Somerset Police said they have reviewed more than 100 hours' worth of CCTV footage and carried out extensive land and river searches since Mr O'Sullivan went missing.

It is hoped that drivers using the Cumberland Basin network at around the time of Mr O'Sullivan's disappearance may have dashcam or eyewitness information which could help with enquiries.

Officers are also "proactively" contacting registered keepers of vehicles who were seen driving in the area.

The last confirmed sighting of Mr O'Sullivan is at 03:13, as he walked onto the grass area at the junction of Brunel Lock Way and Brunel Way.

There are two further sightings which are likely to be Mr O'Sullivan along the Plimsol Bridge at around 03:25, travelling in the direction of the city centre.

Police said there was another sighting at about 03:38, on the Bennett Way slip road on the northern side of the river.

According to police, Mr O'Sullivan attempted to call a friend who was still at the party at 03:24.

When the friend called back 10 minutes later, Mr O'Sullivan answered, only managing to say "hello" before the call cut off.

However, his phone remained active on the Find My Friends app until 06:44.

Mr O'Sullivan is described as white, about 5ft 10ins (178cm) tall, of slim build and with short, brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a quilted green/brown Barbour jacket over a beige woollen jumper, navy chinos and brown leather trainers with white soles.

Det Insp Jason Chidgey said: “We hope this renewed focus on drivers or motorists using the road system around Hotwells and the Cumberland Basin on the morning of Saturday 2 March will yield more potential footage which can help us provide answers to Jack’s family about what happened to him.

“We know there were a significant number of vehicles in the area during this time and we’ve previously appealed for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward – with a particular focus on the area of Brunel Way, Brunel Lock Road, Junction Swing Bridge, Plimsol Swing Bridge or the Portway, anytime between 02:45 and 04:00 on Saturday 2 March.

"We’re also still appealing for any mobile phone or doorbell footage.

“Our thoughts are very much with Jack’s family who are going through an unimaginable ordeal, and we’re committed to supporting them in any way we can."
