Moorpark High School was ordered to shelter in place for just under two hours Thursday morning while police investigated a potential threat reported via an anonymous tip, school officials said.

A student at the school was later arrested.

The school lifted its order early Thursday afternoon, Moorpark Unified School District said in a social media post just after 1 p.m., after Moorpark Police Department officers found no credible threat to the campus.

The district publicly announced the order in an 11:15 a.m. social media post, saying that school administrators contacted the Moorpark Police Department as soon as they learned of the threat and had the 1,800-student campus under a shelter-in-place order out of an abundance of caution.

"While we cannot comment on the exact nature of the potential threat, we can share that it is not bomb-related," the district wrote. "All precautions are being taken at this time."

Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Robert Yoos said several units were dispatched to the school and went in around 10:15 a.m. He said that there were six officers on campus as of early afternoon.

"They're currently still on scene and looking into the matter, but we don't believe there's any threat that exists on the campus at this point in time," he said around 1 p.m.. The sheriff's office is contracted to provide police services in Moorpark.

On Friday, sheriff's officials said they had arrested the 17-year-old male student on suspicion of falsely reporting an emergency.

The incident involved several anonymous reports of a firearm on campus made via the anonymous WeTip app. An investigation led to the student. Additional evidence reportedly linked him with the false reports. He was booked into the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center outside Oxnard. This story may be updated.
