Woman faces murder charge after body found in burning Montreal apartment building
A 29-year-old woman is facing second-degree murder and arson charges after a body was found in a burning apartment building Tuesday in the eastern Montreal borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, Radio-Canada has learned.
The 29-year-old woman was located near the building. She was transported to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was arrested Wednesday morning.
She is expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon, Radio-Canada reports.
Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, several 911 calls were made concerning a fire in an apartment building on de Versailles Street, according to Const. Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
When the Montreal fire service arrived, firefighters located an unconscious person inside an apartment. Police say she had marks of violence on her body.
Rescuers attempted resuscitation manoeuvres, but the woman, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the fire are currently unknown.
It is the ninth homicide this year on SPVM territory.
