Montgomery SWAT officer involved in Thursday shooting, police confirm

A man suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon in a Montgomery Police Department officer-involved shooting.

At about 2:31 pm, while conducting an investigation in the 4100 block of Troy Highway, MPD SWAT was involved in an officer-involved shooting, said Maj. Saba Coleman, spokeswoman for the MPD. An adult male who sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Coleman said. No officers were injured, she said.

The case has been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation, which is common in an officer-involved shooting.

Sgt. Jeremy Burkett, spokesman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, confirmed SBI is investigating the case. He said Thursday that more information will be released about the investigation at a later time.
