Montgomery County libraries holding free animation workshops for children during spring break

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County teens and tweens can take animation classes during spring break this year.

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) announced that it will be hosting several animation workshops for kids between the ages of 10 and 15 from March 25-29.

There will be a total of five workshops, one on each day. You’ll have to register your child for a workshop, but doing so is free.

Any participants will also get art supplies to use during the workshops.

  • Monday, March 25 | 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
    Connie Morella Library, 7400 Arlington Rd., Bethesda — Register

  • Tuesday, March 26 | 2-3 p.m.
    Gaithersburg Library, 18330 Montgomery Village Ave., Gaithersburg — Register

  • Wednesday, March 27 | 2-3 p.m.
    Twinbrook Library, 202 Meadow Hall Dr., Rockville — Register

  • Thursday, March 28 | 10:30-11:30 a.m.
    Rockville Memorial Library, 21 Maryland Ave., Rockville — Register

  • Friday, March 29 | 2-3 p.m.
    Aspen Hill Library, 4407 Aspen Hill Rd., Rockville — Register

According to a news release from MCPL, Leila Cabib — a cartoonist, illustrator, and animator with work in newspapers, magazines, books, and a museum — will be leading the workshops. Cabib has worked on two different comic strips and worked with publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

“The arts play a pivotal role in fostering self-expression, individuality, and emotional exploration. These animation workshops help equip our youth with invaluable skills, empowering them to creatively express themselves and explore their feelings,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in the release.
