Montgomery County councilwomen host Women’s History Month breakfast

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — On Friday morning – International Women’s Day – leaders in Montgomery County celebrated by hosting a special Breakfast and Banter Women’s History Month Event.

The six women who serve on the Montgomery County Council hosted the event at the BlackRock Center for the Arts. The theme for the day was Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Women from across the state came together to celebrate one another and their key contributions to the world.

“There are still glass ceilings to break,” Comptroller of Maryland Brooke Lierman said, “but also, when we work together, we can break them.”

Those in attendance say it felt amazing being acknowledged for the loving, resilient, intelligent women they are.

“We are ‘it,’” Brooke Holmes, president of the Potomac Valley Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Alumnae Chapter said, “and when I say ‘it,’ I mean the world really does revolve around us. It needs us.”

There will be many more Women’s History Month events happening in Montgomery County and other parts of the DMV throughout the month of March.
