Montgomery and Boyd houses ready for season

Mar. 17—DANVILLE — Members of the Montour County Historical Society are preparing to reopen the Boyd House and Montgomery House Museums for tours next month.

The Montgomery House was built by William Montgomery for his family. Montgomery was the founder of Danville. The borough was named after Montgomery's son, Daniel, according to the society's site.

The home next to the Montgomery House was built by Daniel Montgomery Boyd, grandson of Daniel Montgomery. The Montour County Historical Society purchased the Boyd House in 2010 to expand their collection space, the site says.

The houses are a gem in downtown Danville, society members Ruth Ann McCormick and Betsy Hack said.

"They are loaded with lots of wonderful items," McCormick said.

"Everything has been donated and labeled," Hack added. "It's simply amazing."

Within the Boyd House alone are displays of military items, a genealogy room and an in-depth history of Danville spanning the past 200 years, according to society curator Diane Zamboni.

"All of the military items are from local veterans," Zamboni said. "We're really proud of that."

The military sections have grown just in the past few years, according to McCormick.

As they get ready to bring people into the historical homes, the society is holding indoor yard sales every Saturday in March at the Boyd House.

The items for sale were all donated by local residents, Zamboni said.

Tours through the Montgomery and Boyd House will be offered every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning April 7. Visitors will be toured through both houses at a price of $10 for adults, children and Montour County Historical Society members tour for free, according to Zamboni.
