Montague woman charged with Medicaid fraud

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Montague woman has been charged with Medicaid fraud, the Michigan Attorney General’s Office said.

On Friday, 28-year-old Julia Bland was charged with one count of Medicaid fraud — false claim, a four-year, felony.

Her bond has been set at $50,000.

According to the AG’s office, while Bland was employed with GT Independence to provide in-home services to a Medicaid beneficiary, she allegedly submitted false claims for services that she supposedly provided between Feb. 26, 2023, and July 13, 2023.

Bland was using an app to report dates and hours that she provided services to the patient. The AG’s office said that the app tracked approximate GRPS locations when the services were logged. The app showed several instances where he was not near the patient’s home at the time of service.

“Providing Medicaid-funded in-home care is critical to keeping vulnerable people in their own homes as long as possible,” Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a release. “Caregivers who use the program to commit fraud will be held accountable.”

Bland is scheduled to be back in court for a probable cause conference on May 31.
