Task force releases results from Sunday’s OVI checkpoint in Mont Co.

The Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force has announced the results from two OVI checkpoints conducted Sunday night.

The first checkpoint was conducted at 3696 Salem Avenue.

According to the police department, 173 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

There were four citations issued for driving without a license.

One driver was tested for possible OVI and four warnings were issued for expired registrations.

The Gettysburg Avenue checkpoint saw over 67 cars pass through, resulting in two citations for not having a driver’s license.

One person was tested for possible OVI and four were warned for having expired registrations.

According to a release from the task force, one misdemeanor drug citation was made.

For the remainder of the Fourth of July holiday, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies and officers from the Combined Agency OVI Task Force will conduct OVI saturation patrols.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force will be conducting OVI sobriety checkpoints from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, a media release said.

The checkpoints will be held on Salem Avenue near Gettysburg Avenue and then move around 9 p.m. to Gettysburg Avenue near Free Pike, the sheriff’s office said.

53 arrests were made for impaired driving near the proposed checkpoint in 2021, an increase from 37 arrests in the same area in 2020, the release said.

OVI checkpoints provide a valuable opportunity for law enforcement to educate the public about the dangers and consequences associated with impaired driving, the sheriff’s said, while identifying and removing impaired drivers from the roadways.

Checkpoint locations were chosen based on statistical data, the release said.
