Monroe County Commission holds emergency meeting regarding resignation of Sheriff Jeff Jones

MONROE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — On Monday, March 18, 2024, an emergency meeting was called by the Monroe County Commission about the resignation of the Monroe County Sheriff.

According to the Monroe County Commission, the resignation of Jeff Jones as the Sheriff of Monroe County was accepted at the meeting.

Until a permanent successor can be chosen to take office on January 1, 2025, a temporary Sheriff will be sought out to fill in for the remaining time of Jones’ term.

The civil litigation that started on October 26, 2023, when a decision was made by the Commission to have Sheriff Jones removed from office, ended with Jones’ resignation.
