• A monkey escaped an American Airlines flight at San Antonio International Airport, the airline has confirmed to Business Insider.

• The animal was traveling from Chicago to an animal sanctuary in San Antonio and escaped from his cage after the flight landed.

• CBS affiliate KENS 5 reports that the monkey has been caught.
  
  

• An American Airlines representative said the monkey is on his way to the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary.

A monkey escaped an American Airlines flight at San Antonio International Airport, the airline has confirmed to Business Insider.

CBS affiliate KENS 5 reports that the monkey has been caught. The monkey had been in a baggage area, according to the station.

The animal was traveling from Chicago to an animal sanctuary in San Antonio and escaped from his cage after the flight landed, according to an American Airlines representative.  The representative said the monkey is on his way to the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary.

"American Airlines, the San Antonio Aviation Department and officials from the San Antonio Zoo all worked in conjunction to ensure his safety and wellbeing as he continues his journey to his new home," the representative said.

The policy changes have focused on the types of animals that can be transported in cargo holds and the process by which a passenger certifies that an emotional support animal is medically necessary and able to behave in public.
