Monday Morning Forecast for Baton Rouge 5-27-24

Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 6:50 am forecast. Good morning everyone and happy Monday. Hopefully you had a relaxing weekend. Today will be...you guessed it....another hot and humid day. Highs will be in the mid 90s, but heat index values will be near 105. A heat advisory will be in effect from noon until 8 pm. Remember to drink plenty of water and don’t forget your sunscreen if you have plans to be outside today for any Memorial Day festivities. Also, double check your cars before getting out of them. Don’t leave kids or pets in a hot car. We’ve had dry weather for the last couple of days, but we’ll possibly receive rain today. A ridge of high pressure has helped us to have this warmer and dry weather within the last week. This will still be in place, but a cold front will also push south. Of course, we won’t have relief from the heat, but there will be slight relief (emphasis on slight) later this week from the higher humidity. Remember to drink plenty of water and don’t forget your sunscreen if you have plans to be outside today. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible today. Our area is under a marginal risk for severe weather. There may be isolated instances of a strong or severe t-storms. A severe t-storm warning was in effect for Natchez/Adams County, MS earlier this morning. There were other severe t-storm warnings and a tornado watch in effect for parts of Mississippi, Arkansas and northern Louisiana earlier this morning too. A weak cold front will move through our area early Tuesday, but at this time it’s still northwest of us. It’s still moving through parts of NE Texas and Arkansas this morning. While there were showers and thunderstorms north of the Greater Baton Rouge area this morning, we may finally get a few showers this evening as the front starts moving into our area. N/NW winds will bring in drier air behind the front. This will help the dew points (humidity) to go down a tad bit. The front will move through our area, but it is expected to stall just offshore. This stationary front could assist in daily rain chances this week. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s and low 90s for the rest of the week. And again, the humidity will be a tad bit lower behind the passage of this cold front. We’re in the last few days of May. Have a magnificent Monday!
