Mom charged in deaths of 4-year-old twin boys

CHEROKEE COUNTY, North Carolina (WJW) – Autopsies are underway to determine the cause of death for 4-year-old twin boys in Murphy, North Carolina.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a 911 call at a home on Saturday, March 2.

The sheriff reports a dad had arrived to pick up the children from his wife, from whom he was separated.

The man reportedly found his twins dead at the home.

According to the sheriff’s office, the mother of the twins, Genevieve Ellen Springer, faces two counts of first-degree murder.

The sheriff reports Springer was briefly hospitalized before she was arrested on the charges.

She was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center on Sunday, March 3, and is currently being held without bond.

The date and time of the children’s deaths is under investigation. According to the children’s father, he had not seen his twin sons alive since February 26.
