Mom allegedly killed 2-year-old daughter, attacked officers trying to revive her

Police in New York’s Westchester County allege that a 28-year-old mother killed her 2-year-old daughter Saturday — less than 24 hours after refusing to comply with a court order transferring custody of the child to the girl's father.

Cynthia Arce, 28, was arrested Tuesday at the Westchester County Medical Center where she was being treated for a gunshot wound. She was charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a police officer.

The Journal News reports Arce slashed two officers who responded to her home in Mamaroneck as they tried to help the injured toddler.

Police say officers used a stun gun before shooting the woman.

The toddler, Gabriella Boyd, was taken to a hospital where she died. Autopsy results are pending.

Martin Rosen, a lawyer for Stephen Boyd, the girl's father, said police went to Arce's home one day before the deadly incident to remove the child as ordered by a judge. Arce slammed the door on the officers and police were not sure if they had the authority to enter the home and take the girl.

“When the police requested the child be given to them, she refused and shut the door,” Rosen told CBS New York. “Despite my efforts, they took the position they could not enter the house.”

Rosen believes someone failed Gabriella, and should be held accountable.

A GoFundMe account was created to help pay for Gabriella's funeral and create a foundation in her honor.

"While our hearts are broken and still mourning, Gabriella's family having to go through the difficult steps of laying her to rest; both emotionally and financially," the page reads.
