Mogadore public employee charged with stealing more than $80,000 from village

A Mogadore public employee accused of stealing tens of thousands from the village was arrested Friday and taken to the Portage County Jail, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office

A Portage County grand jury on Thursday indicted Michelle Shutler, 51, a clerk for the Mogadore Mayor's Court, on charges of stealing $88,796 from the village — which is split between Portage and Summit counties.

In January, the village asked the Summit sheriff’s office to investigate the stolen funds, which went missing between October 2016 and November 2023.

Shutler was charged with theft in office and tampering with records, both of which are third degree felonies.
