Modesto woman convicted of torture, attempted murder. ‘Something out of a horror movie’

A 32-year-old Modesto woman was convicted of torture, attempted murder and child endangerment on Thursday, the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Alicia Tran and an accomplice, Jorge Martinez, were accused of luring into a residence on Beyer Park Drive a man they believed stole cocaine from them, according to court documents.

The incident occurred in November.

Modesto Police Department Officers responded to call of a bleeding man ringing doorbells, asking for help from those he encountered.

The man had “severe lacerations” to his arms, legs and hands.

When officers contacted the man, he pointed them to a house on Beyer Park Drive. He told officers he’d been tortured and held against his will for nearly an hour.

When officers searched the home, they found the bathroom was “covered in blood,” smeared across the walls and along the inside of the bathtub.

At one point, the man tried to escape through the bathroom window, leaving blood-smeared handprints leading up to it.

“It looked like something out of a horror movie,” said prosecutor Patrick Hogan. “It’s indescribable of how brutal this was.”

Evidence presented at trial demonstrated that Tran and Martinez conspired to lure the man into the bathroom, where they attacked him, believing he was a drug thief and an informant to police.

Tran was arrested at the scene. Martinez fled and is still at large.

Police also found two children inside the home. In addition to attempted murder, torture and aggravated mayhem, Tran was convicted on child endangerment charges.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on June 25 and faces life in prison.
