'Modern Family' will kill off a 'significant' character this season
One of the most beloved shows on TV will soon be down a star, as Modern Family bosses have revealed they will be killing off a “significant character” this season.
The show, which has made household names out of all its stars, including Sofia Vergara, Sarah Hyland, and Ariel Winter, has been on air since 2009 and will premiere its 10th season later this month.
While fans are used to laughing at the family’s antics, it appears the next season will be a somber one, as a showrunner has confirmed that one of the characters will be killed off.
“We’re handling some bigger life events in this season,” co-creator Christopher Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly. “We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”
Lloyd went on to say that the death “will be a moving event” that will shape the show for a few episodes.
Fans took to social media to express their shock at the news and offer ideas on who will be leaving. Hyland herself responded to the troubling teaser.
Is this how actors on @GameOfThrones & @WalkingDead_AMC feel?!?! https://t.co/68AyM78ejL

@TommyGShow Somebody significant is going to die on @ModernFam? It better not be Jay/Ed O'Neill. Unless of course he is returning to 1 of the best shows ever….. Married…With Children

If I had to guess, I would say… DeDe! If not, then… Frank Dunphy. They are not main characters, but they both are significant characters.
