Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has stepped down as host of Love Island USA.

The star has presented the US version of the reality show since its fourth season, though confirmed she will not be overseeing the upcoming sixth due to commitments for another project.

Revealing the news on her Instagram Stories, Hyland wrote: “Well, just got a text. I’m disappointed the news had to break this way but it is in fact true that I will not be returning to the island this summer.

“I have committed to an exciting project that will be announced soon, that conflicts directly with the shooting dates for Love Island USA. While I’m sad I can’t return, I hope to see lots of love this summer on Peacock this upcoming season!”

The US version of the British show first launched back in 2019, and was originally hosted by Arielle Vandenberg before Hyland took over.

The news comes after Love Island USA was renewed for a two further seasons by streamer Peacock back in November.

The fifth season of the show concluded last August, with Hannah Wright and Marco Donatelli taking the crown, ahead of runners-up Kassy Castillo and Leonardo Dionicio.

Last summer, many fans online shared their support for Hyland after she clashed on air with contestant Mike Stark, which saw the islander accuse Hyland of being "mad disrespectful" after she checked that another contestant was happy with a decision.

"I'm being disrespectful?" Hyland asked, retaining her composure. "Okay then."

After another contestant apologised to the presenter on behalf of Stark, Hyland said: "Boys will be boys, right?"

Love Island USA streams on Peacock. Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
