Modern day ‘Babe Ruth’ announces secret wedding to mystery Japanese woman

Japan’s most eligible bachelor and modern day Babe Ruth has announced that he secretly got married to a mystery woman.
Shohei Ohtani, a baseball superstar for the Los Angeles Dodgers, said on Instagram: “The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married.”
Without naming her, he said that his new wife was a “Japanese woman” and someone “very special to me”, adding that he would reveal more to the press on Friday.
“We are still young and [there are] many things we don’t know yet, but we hope you will warmly watch over us. We hope that the two of us (and one dog) will work together to support each other and move forward alongside our fans”, he told his seven million Instagram followers.
The athlete, who has been nicknamed “Shotime”, has been described as one of the world’s best baseball players with his unique skills earning him a comparison to Babe Ruth.
Unlike most players who specialise in batting or pitching, Ohtani is equally skilled in both, like the legendary Ruth.
Once referred to as Japan’s most eligible bachelor, fans flooded social media with a mixture of congratulatory messages and heartbroken cries.
“Shohei Ohtani is married. This is the worst day of my life,” one post read.
“Taking off work to mourn the loss of Shohei,” another user replied.
Ohtani made history in 2023 when he signed a record-breaking contract with the LA Dodgers that gives the star a payout of $700million (£552 million) over a 10-year period with the team. This made him one of the highest paid athletes in the world.
On Tuesday, Ohtani got his LA Dodgers career off to a swinging start making a huge home run in his Spring Training debut in a victory against the Chicago White Sox.
It was the first time that the reigning American League MVP had stepped up to the plate since undergoing surgery on his elbow in September.
According to the physician who performed the surgery, Ohtani won’t be pitching until 2025, sticking to batting during the upcoming season.
Ohanti is currently training in Arizona for the Major League Baseball’s season starting in late March.
The LA Dodgers will open in Seoul, South Korea, in a two-game series against the San Diego Padres on March 20-21.
