MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The City of Mobile has created a new administrative position: deputy of Public Safety.

According to officials, this new position will be under the Department of Public Safety, which encompasses the Mobile Police Department, the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, and the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency. It is slated to serve under Mobile Public Safety Director Rob Lasky.

Curtis Graves, a Troy University graduate and veteran of the Mobile Police Department, will take on the new role. Graves has served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the past eight years, according to his LinkedIn page.

WKRG has previously reported that Graves was involved in Project Thrive, an initiative to connect victims of crime with resources to help them, was the host of a Gang Awareness and Prevention Town Hall meeting, and was involved in the introduction of the ‘Data for Good’ program to alert police to gunshots in Mobile.

Although he was just hired, Graves says he will continue his efforts to tackle violence in the community — specifically gun violence — by implementing a grassroots effort.

We will share more details about that plan when we learn more.
