Mobile County SWAT Team arrests Prichard homicide suspect

PRICHARD, Ala. (WKRG) — A Prichard homicide suspect was arrested Friday after the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team surrounded his location, according to a news release from MCSO.

The release said Prichard Police contacted MCSO on Friday to assist them in arresting Kendarius Deontae Welch, a suspect in the April 2 murder of 24-year-old Dontavious Williams.

Officials with the Prichard Police Department received a tip on where Welch could be found, which was a home on Sanders Road in Prichard, according to the release.

The release said the MCSO SWAT Team surrounded the home, and Welch was arrested without incident. The Prichard Major Crimes Unit was also involved in making the arrest.

Welch was also charged with four counts of felony probation revocation, according to officials.

“We have been assisting Prichard Police by providing our Crime Scene Unit with homicides,” said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch. “We are now working together to assist in locating some of these violent criminals who continue to terrorize the citizens of Prichard.”

MCSO said PPD is still searching for Nicholas Elias Mixon in connection with Williams’s murder. A murder warrant is out for his arrest.
