Some Mobile County shellfish growing waters closed: ADPH

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Tuesday it has closed shellfish growing waters in Mobile County.

According to a release from ADPH, Areas II and VII are closed, which includes Portersville Bay and Grand Bay.

State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris closed harvesting because of possible bacteriological contamination of the oyster beds due to recent rainfall.

The department will monitor bay waters and the shellfish, and harvesting will resume when areas meet acceptable bacteriological criteria.
